This hand embroidered design is based off a late 17th century woven French document from a style historically categorized as “Bizzare”. The motifs typically feature large scale patterns on the diagonal with fantastical fauna and flora. The surreal designs only existed for a short period of time between 1680s to 1720s. Centuries later, these guys are still super weird but with an undeniable charm and whimsy.
